Adapt to the Weather for Largemouth

Bass fishing is an analytical process. You analyze all the conditions for that given day, and then you make your best guess as to where fish are located and what it’ll take to catch them.

largemouthThen about the time you’ve got them figured out, along comes a weather change and the deck is shuffled. Sound familiar?

Denny Brauer is one of the superstars on the professional bass circuit. He’s won many tournaments and much acclaim for his fish-catching ability. And, one of Brauer’s strengths is being able to figure out how bass react when the weather changes.

Let’s say you’re on a good pattern, and then a cold front blows through. The fish are going to respond to this change, and Brauer says anglers must do likewise if they’re going to keep getting bites.

“Obviously, I’m going to be monitoring the weather and some types of fish. If I see that the weather forecast is going to turn a certain a way and its going to devastate that pattern, it’s probably not going to be something I seek out to start with.”

If the weather changes, Brauer says solving the weather puzzle is about self examination.

“Ask yourself what the conditions are forcing the bass to do. Your past history and your past experience should tell if you need to back off a little bit. Maybe they suspended off the points and you need to crankbait, maybe they moved in tight to the bushes and you need to move in there because it’s bright and sunny out all of a sudden. So it’s usually a common sense deal, just ask yourself what’s changed, what would you do under those conditions, and a lot of times what you do, the bass would are doing the exact same

Late Winter Lipless Largemouth

Bass pro Kevin VanDam says fishing can be really good in February despite the cold water, but a special presentation is required. He uses a lipless crankbait and a retrieve method that not many anglers know about. If they did, they’d score big catches like VandDam.

VanDam adds that the key to success with lipless crankbaits in cold water is to slow your retrieve and keep the bait in contact with the bottom or the cover. In other words, don’t just cast it out and reel it back.

“When I’m fishing this bait in late winter, that’s all I’ll do,” he says. “With this bait, you don’t want to ever let it sink with a slack line. I’m going to use fluorocarbon line because I get a good feel with it.

Bottom contact is absolutely critical with these baits,” he stresses. “If it’s hitting the bottom, hitting the grass, hitting the stump, or even if you’re just yo-yoing it up and down off the bottom, you’re going to be catching a lot more fish.”

This is the time  to start getting ready for that big bass of the year! Pre-Spawn the weather is warming up bass will be moving up to shallow water. Before they do here are some jigging tips that might help you land that big one you have been wanting to catch.

Bass Fishing Jigs are the Secret to Bigger Bass!

If big bass are what you desire there is one bass fishing lure that can put the big ones in the boat. Bass fishing jigs are one of the best bass lures for catching those big bass.

This article will discuss some of the techniques and colors to choose for the perfect catch.

To Trailer or Not To Trailer

Before we decide whether or not to put a trailer on the bass fishing jig it might be appropriate to discuss the purpose of the trailer.

Bass trailer give your jig two advantages. One advantage to a jig trailer is to give your jig more body and life. Bass are a fish that likes to attack unsuspecting prey.

The trailer will make the jig appear more life like. The trailer will give the jig a look like a crawfish. The legs on the trailer will appear like the claws of the crawfish. This is one of the favorite foods for bass.

What Shape Is Your Head?

The shape of a bass jig head is very important. There are several shapes available in bass fishing jigs. You will find football jigs, pointed nose head jigs, and the list goes on.

The shape is argued by many, but it really comes down to a personal choice. Most choose a football shaped head and this style will sit up nicely on the bottom bringing the trailer to life and looking as if it trying to defend itself. This action will often evoke a strike by the bass.

The Weed Guard

There are bass jigs that have a weed guard and bass jigs that come without. The most common jigs usually have a weed guard. The key to using a bass fishing jig with a weed guard is to trim it back just a bit.

The purpose for this is to make sure that the bass will hook itself properly when it bites down on the jig.
Many a fisherman has lost big bass. By not taking the time to take care of this one little detail.
